Electrostatic Refinishing

Where Quality Matters

Benefits of Electrostatic Refinishing

We all know that there are ways to ensure that exterior surfaces such as stucco, cement board, and wood can be treated to make sure that it lasts a long time while not sacrificing the overall look of the structure. It is not always easy to know which coating solution you should use, as each surface may have a different way they need to be treated. The question then becomes, what can I do to make sure that my metal railings, fences, poles, and gates last too?

Accurate Painting of NW Florida has the answer for you. Look into our process of electrostatic refinishing to protect metal surfaces.

Electrostatic refinishing is the ideal way to make sure that the metal surfaces that are exposed to outside elements can stand the test of time. It is a process whereby a negatively charged coating ion, which once applied, sticks to the positively charged ions within the metal. This is the same science that makes magnets work, or as many people use the phrase “opposites attract,” which means that you can extremely limit the problem of any residual spray damaging other surfaces. One additional advantage of electrostatic refinishing is the overall aesthetic benefits the process provides, most notably a smooth, brush stroke free appearance of the re-finished metal.

Electrostatic Refinishing

The Science Behind the Treatment

ou can use the electrostatic refinishing process on most metal surfaces, especially the ones that are typically used to build outdoor structures. It looks like a fresh coat of paint, but will not easily strip off, and it adds a layer of protection to the metal itself. The coatings themselves are high-performance industrial epoxies and urethanes, specifically designed for electrostatic spraying. If you look at the chemistry behind it, many metals react in unique ways when exposed to various chemicals. You will find that metals will rust, weaken, crack, or deteriorate when it has been exposed to these chemicals over time. When you apply these high-performance coatings via electrostatic application to these surfaces, you are adding a barrier that is protecting the metal from these damaging chemicals.

It has been proven that these coatings applied via an electrostatic refinishing process are resistant to scratches and will retain their color for a longer period. This is because the finish actually clings to the metal, as opposed to simply drying on top of it. Furthermore, it adds a layer of corrosion resistance to the metal, which is very important when you live in NW Florida. The substance that causes the metal to corrode is typically salt. This means that the salt found in the waters surrounding the area will damage most metals and will do so rather quickly. However, the electrostatic finish will keep the salt from touching the metal, not allowing it to be exposed and start to weaken. The specialty finish comes in a variety of colors, so you will not have to settle for a color that you do not want for your outdoor metal, however, Black, Bronze, and White are most typically used.
